A Guide to Hiking + Camping at Alicia Panoramic Park, Bohol

This place is one of the most scenic places that I have been to in Bohol and is the perfect place to visit for those who want an adventure away from the tourist spots in the province.

About Alicia Panoramic Park

This beautiful scenery is located in Alicia, a town around 2.5 hours away from Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Its peak, Binabaje Hills, rises 400 meters above sea level and is covered in long cogon grass.

The town is also where ALICIA SCHIST, the oldest known rock in Bohol, can be found. These rocks are believed to have existed since the near end of the Jurassic Era, which is the era of dinosaurs, to the early Cretaceous Era—around 145-100 million years ago!

How cool is that?? When you visit Alicia, you are actually stepping on those precious rocks.

Here’s what to expect

The park is managed by the local municipality, so all revenue, excluding guide fees, goes to them.

  • Entrance – Php 30 pesos
  • Local Guide – Php 300 for the day hike and Php 500 if camping/ 5 people max
  • Porter – Php 300
  • Tents and trekking poles are available for rent

A guide is strictly required because even if the hike is just a few kilometers long, it is also a steep hike, and the trails can be confusing. The local guides know the trails best and are trained in first aid as well.

Depending on your pace, the whole hike can last from 1.5 to 4 hours.

When I went there recently, I was not in the best physical condition because I hadn’t been exercising for months and had not prepared beforehand. So the hike took me around 3 hours. And my heart can’t cope. lol

First time meeting Ms. Cynthia and her fam! At this point, my heart couldn’t keep up so the guide volunteered to exchange my heavy bag for his.

If you are going on a day hike, it is best to get started as early as possible because it will be hot. Since we were camping, we started our trek at around 4 PM and were still walking to the camp as the sun was setting. The view was incredible.

  • Light long sleeves & long pants because the trail is through cogon grass which will leave tiny itchy scratches on your skin.
  • Water – At least 2L/person if you’re camping. The hike is exposed to the sun too so as much water you can carry is welcome.
  • Exercise beforehand – It will be a long walk and is steep so make sure you are physically prepared to be able to enjoy the trip (and not curse your friend for bringing you there).
  • Camping gear & food of course!

The moon & stars were very visible during our camp. Perfect for the late-night deep convos. Photo by Johnny Ferniz.

There is a toilet at the peak with stored water from rain. So make sure to be conservative with your use when you need to.

There are snacks and drinks for sale at the registration area, so make sure to buy what you need because there is nothing at the campsite but a view deck.

How to get to Alicia Panoramic Park

The town of Alicia is more or less 3 hours via public transport from Dao Integrated Bus Terminal via bus or van. Once you are in the town center, you ride a habal-habal to the registration area.

A motorbike or private transport is ideal. They have a wide parking space available.

REMEMBER:

Take nothing but pictures.

Leave nothing but footprints.

Kill nothing but time.

Bring nothing but memories.
